When The Internet Was Young

I came across this "commercial break" conversation from the 1994 "Today Show" and it puts things into persepective as to how far we have come in the world of technology.
When I consider the hours I am putting into order sets and electronic medical records it makes me smile to think of simple days:

Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUs7iG1mNjI

Enjoy. The irony is that I worked for that program two years later and probbaly knew as little as they did!

Unwanted Drug Interactions Lead to Disaster

It is a major problem in medicine today: unwanted drug interactions. We see it across the entire spectrum of care. The elderly can get confused and mix incorrect drugs; a patients can see several doctors and unless there are electronic medical records or an attentive pharmacist, there can be potentially devastating interactions; people seeking relief from pain or those searching for the newest high can wind up dead due to the synergistic effects of multiple drugs. Take a look at this clip and see what I am talking about:

If you are searching for a way to check if your medications are putting you at risk check with your pharmacist or doctor. There is another great tool on www.mymedicalreports .com, a searchable drug database powered by iGuard.org Check it out.
