Post Thanksgiving Diet Tips
All right if you read my blog on Thanksgiving and eating you know that I suggested that you should eat basically all you want and have a great time with family and friends. Naturally if you had certain underlying health issues and are on a special diet with your physician should follow this. But when I said that I had one very important additional point. I said we are in a very dangerous time when it comes to diet. The holiday season is one where there are parties plenty of candies and all sorts of temptations. The reason I said to enjoy Thanksgiving is that I also hoped you will eat in moderation through the better part of the holiday season. One of the reasons why so many people make New Year's resolutions to diet is because they put on weight during the holiday season. If you can keep this to a minimum you won't have to make the dramatic changes at New Year's. None of us are perfect and that's important to mention that this is a goal to shoot for

Pets and Your Health
Good news if you're a pet lover, or if you're a person who feels alone and is having a frustrating time finding a companion. According to a report in The American Family Physician, several medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, are stressing the importance of pets as a source of companionship. This is on the heels of several studies which have actually looked at the psychological advantages of pet ownership. In addition to this, the American Medical Association and leaders in veterinary medicine have begun a dialogue looking at ways to further study the advantages of pet ownership.

Cancer and The Hard Facts
For the first time in ten years, there are fewer people dying of cancer. According to a new study, researchers looked at the top 15 cancers found in men and women and discovered that the rates are decreased for men and women by .8% from the years 1999 to 2005. This decline is due largely to decreases in the three most common cancers in men; that's lung, colorectal, and prostate, and the two most common cancers in women; breast and colorectal. Despite the overall trend, there are still certain cancers that have increased. In men, kidney, liver, esophagus, certain lymphomas, and melanoma have all increased. In women, kidney, lung, thyroid, pancreas, bladder, brain, melanoma, certain lymphomas and leukemia have increased. Variations in smoking influence cancer rates as well. California, which has strong tobacco control, saw twice that big of a drop in cancer.

The Latest on H1N1
Many colleges are already putting plans in place and publicizing those plans for students. Basically, if a student gets H1N1, they’re recommending that each students, that develops the problem, have transportation to go home as part of their preparedness. They should remain home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have fever, without the use of fever reducing medications. In addition to that, for students who need to remain on campus or can’t get home, they believe self-isolation is important, which includes, social distancing-keeping about 6 feet away from others, wearing a mask when moving into a shared bathroom, and also continuing frequent hand washing and the use of a hand sanitizer. Obviously all of theses things are important because they are anticipating problems ahead of time and that may be the most important way to reduce spread. Gambling Is an Addiction

There is no doubt that gambling is an addiction. Study after study has shown this. One of the devastating aspects of a gambling addiction is that the condition can literally destroy careers, families and even lives.
As you know from my blogs, I tend to write about sports every now and then--the relationship between sports and health can be fascinating.
Today is the twentieth anniversary of baseball banning Pete Rose for betting on games he managed. This is clearly a violation of rules, but Pete Rose has paid his price--a far greater price than Barry Bonds, Rafael Palmero, Sammy Sosa and David Ortiz.
Considering the knowledge we now have about gambling and the fact that Bud Selig has turned his back on the steroid issue. Why not give the all time hit leader a second chance.

The Importance of Vacation
August is the number one month for vacations. If you are planning a vacation do yourself a favor and leave the work at home. You need to separate yourself from work if you are going to relax. It sounds simple but it is a very tough thing to do. For more information check www.mymedicalreports.com
